Welcome to ForestPlanet

ForestPlanet, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization that supports large scale, low cost-per-tree reforestation efforts all over the world. We help plant trees where they have the greatest benefit to the soil, local habitat, the overall environment, and local communities. We support biodiverse planting projects due to their many benefits: • Stabilize soils • Help the land retain rainwater • Provide income and food security to local populations • Provide habitat for the region’s wildlife And, of course, trees help cool the planet! For example, these photos were taken just two years apart, illustrating the amazing transformative power of a properly executed reforestation project. After a year of the trees doing their magic to revitalize the soil, the local populations can plant, or ‘inter-crop’, a variety of nutritious vegetables. Most of the harvest is consumed locally, but a good portion is sold into urban markets. A bit of food security and income security can go a long way! We welcome your support and participation! Your donations via PayPal or our web donation form help us replicate the success shown above many times over… and all over the world! Thanks also to our many ongoing business partners for their support.  Special shout-out to Utility Advisor, community solar experts helping consumers navigate this growing zero-emission lower cost energy option. Subscriptions to solar developments in MD, DC, VA and elsewhere are available to *anyone* with a utility account, not just owners of single family homes.  Through this system apartment dwellers and renters all have access to clean, affordable, and locally produced electricity.  Learn more about this popular option here. We’re happy to be working again with our long term supporter the D.C. Breeze in 2022.  Professional ultimate disc *is* a thing, and an exciting and sustainable one at that: the D.C. Breeze plants one tree for every ticket sold all season long!  Home games are played at Carlini Field at Catholic University, complete schedule and ticket information is available here. IF you picked up a baby sycamore tree today, here’s the suggested care and feeding:
  • Place your tree in a window sill where it gets plenty of light.  You can add potting soil to the cup, it’s OK to mix in a little sandy soil as well.  Don’t let the soil get too dry
  • The seedling can remain in the cup until it’s about 4″ tall, afterwards you can up-pot it into a bigger container
  • Once it reaches about 8″ consider finding a friendly space where it can ‘winter’ outside, but remain in the container.  Here’s a write up of how to winter your tree outdoors;
  • You can keep the potted tree in your home for as long as space allows.  After a few years you might want to out-plant the tree permanently, so you have time to find a friendly spot!
