We Will Understand Only What We Are Taught
“In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught.”
– Baba Dioum, Forestry Engineer, Senegal
Oh my, we love this quote so much.
Our main focus here at ForestPlanet is conserving, protecting, and valuing our small blue marble by planting millions of trees. In addition, all of our restoration projects by necessity have an educational element. It’s not enough to just plant trees, we need to plant the seeds of a conservation mindset.
It’s been awesome meeting young and older students all around the world who are eager to understand the critical role that trees play in keeping our planet habitable.
The better we teach a student the more likely they’ll take ownership and grow up to be an informed and motivated ‘Lorax for Life’.
Our educational efforts don’t stop with the students. Constantly communicating to our community that these projects are affordable, effective, and quick to yield solid benefits. We’re holding back the ravages of land degradation while simultaneously addressing root socio-economic challenges.
The accomplished explorer Robert Swan said that “the greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
We feel a bigger threat is the belief that it cannot be saved at all, that we’ve passed the tipping point.
We hope that our updates “teach” that hope is alive, understanding can be grown, and that a conservation mindset will follow.
All at 15 cents per tree.
